Free, No Subscription Required

Histopolis is supported by advertising and donations, there is no charge to use the site -- no subscription is needed. You don't need an account to use the site but a simple, free registration is required to contribute. All users and contributions are welcome.

Cemeteries and Other Places

Histopolis has information on 130,000 cemeteries and 220,000 cities, towns, villages, townships, counties and states in the United States and Puerto Rico . There is a separate page for each of these places containing:

• Name including alternate names the place may be known by.
• Map showing the place location and the borders of relevant governmental jurisdictions.
• Links to sites containing relevant genealogy or history information.
• Subdivisions such as counties, township and cities.
• Cemeteries located within the place.

The Cemeteries page provides a quick and easy way to see the cemeteries in a county. See Place Hierarchy for more information on how places are organized on Histopolis.

Browsing by Location

You can browse for cemeteries and other places by location by starting with the country page (United States or Puerto Rico ) and then navigating to a state page, then a county page, etc. The pages for counties and lower level subdivisions contain a list of the cemeteries located within them. State pages contain a link to a separate page listing the cemeteries within them.

If you don't know the name of a cemetery but can locate it on a map, you can navigate to it by locating it on the map for a county, township or city and double clicking the cemetery marker. Just click on the "Show Area Cemeteries" checkbox under the map to show all of the known cemeteries for that place.

Place Navigation Bar

The place navigation bar ("Select a Place") at the top of each page provides a quick way to navigate to a specific place without visiting each of the pages in the place hierarchy. Just select a country from the drop down list and another drop down list containing the states for that country will be displayed. Continue the process until you have selected the place you want and then click the "Go" button.

Searching by Name

The place navigation bar can also be used to search for a place by name. Use the place navigation dropdown lists to select the place you want to search, such as "United States; Texas", then enter in the place name and click search. A list of the places matching your search will be displayed.

Wanted: Links to Quality Genealogy Content

If you have a genealogy website we invite you to add links to your content. For example, if you have a website with a page containing headstone photos or transcriptions from Fairview Cemetery in Sarpy County , Nebraska , you can navigate to our Fairview Cemetery page and add a link to your page containing your information. Please contact the webmaster to arrange for the bulk loading of links.

You can contribute links to your favorite genealogy resource pages by navigating to the place (state, county, township, city or cemetery) and adding the link there. Give it a try!
