- Located in western Kentucky along the Ohio River and the boundary with Indiana, about 80 km (50 mi) north-northeast of Hopkinsville; County Seat: Owensboro.
- Established in 1815, named for Colonel Joseph Hamilton Daveiss (1774-1811), a well known Kentucky attorney. In 1806 as US Attorney for Kentucky, he prosecuted Aaron Burr for treason. He was later killed in the Battle of Tippecanoe. The spelling of his name was misspelled in the charter for this county and never corrected. (KY-T1/p78)
