- Resthaven Gardens was established in 1956 in the woods west of Pensacola. It was originally intended for the use of the black community, and was probably desegregated in the 1960's.The community that surrounded it was known as Bellshead or Bellshead Branch named after a small stream which runs just to the south of the cemetery. Up until Massachusetts Ave. was extended through to Mobile Hwy. the only access was on a dirt road. The entrance now is off Massachusetts Ave.although the old entrance is sometimes used as an exit point. It is and always has been well maintained and a very peaceful setting, surrounded by old growth live oaks and planted azaleas with wild morning glory and honeysuckle growing along the fence rows.
