- Located in west central Kentucky, about 32 km (20 mi) north-northwest of Bowling Green; County Seat: Morgantown.
- Established in 1810, named for Richard Butler (1742-1791), a Revolutionary War General. He served as George Rogers Clark's Superintendent of Indian Affairs and helped develope the Treaty of 1786 with the Shawnee and Delaware Indians. (KY-T1/p44)
