- Located on the right bank of Chelsea River, just NW of Boston (US-T121).
- Settled in 1624, incorporated as a town in 1739, and as a city in 1857. Named for Chelsea, a metropolitan borough of London, England. The Indian name, "Winnissimet," meaning "good spring." Before 1739, it comprised those parts of Boston known as Winnissimet, Rumney Marsh and Pullen Point (MA-T1/p13).
