- Established in 1885 and named by Mrs Samuel A Hawthorne who served as the first Postmistress for the community. This community was originally named Brownville in honor of Porter Brown, an original settler. Another town named Brownville already existed in the State, therefore the name was changed to Arcadia, which reportedly means "the feast of flowers", likely referring to the many flowers in bloom.
