-
New Site Design. The most commonly used pages have been implemented from the ground up with a new look and internal implementation architecture. You may encounter some pages in the old design while the remainder of the site is rewritten.
-
Site Menu. A new look but few changes in functionality at this point.
-
New Place Navigation bar. Replaces both the previous navigation bar and the place "breadcrumbs" on place pages. See Help on the Place Navigation bar for additional information on using the new navigation bar.
-
Place page redesign Tab-based layout replacing the previous single long page implementation. Pages should load faster and other than the initial tab, the content of subsequent tabs is loaded via Ajax (a web technology) without a full page refresh. Eleven tabs are defined but which tabs appear for a place depends on the place type. See Help for the Place page for an overview of the tabs and other high-level place page information.
-
Paging and filtering of long lists Some tabs can contain long lists of items, such as all the cities or cemeteries in a state. Many lists are now divided into pages of 25 entries each and you can page forward and backwards through the pages. There is also a filter (search) capability for these list that let you display only the entries whose name begins with one or more letters, such as places beginning with "po" or "fort". Paging and filtering is currently implemented on the Cities, Cemeteries, Graves, and Surveys tabs.
-
Overview Tab The previous "Details for ..." section of the place page has become the "Overview" tab which is by default the initially loaded tab. An Edit button supports editing of selected fields for cemeteries. See Help for the Place Overview tab for more information.
-
Map Tab The interactive map that formerly occupied the upper right portion of the place page has been enlarged and given its own tab. Selecting map layers is now performed via a "Layers" drop-down menu located in the upper right part of the tab. See Help for the Place Map tab for more information.
-
Images Tab For place types that support images (cemeteries, unincorporated places), the new Images tab displays and images that have been contributed and supports adding images directly on the page. See Help for the Place Images tab for more information.
-
Administrative Divisions (States, Counties, Townships, ...) The name of the tab varies based on its contents, but it lists the administrative divisions of a place, such as the counties of a state. See Help for the Place Administrative Divisions tab for more information.
-
Cities. Lists the cities in a place, such as a state, county or township. The cities for a state are listed on the cities tab rather than on a separate page as before. Long lists are divided in to pages of 25 items each that can be easily (and quickly) browsed. A filter feature allows you to filter the list based on specifying part of the city name. See Help for the Place Cities tab for more information.
-
Cemeteries. Lists the cemeteries in a place, such as a state, county or township. The cemeteries for a state are listed on the tab rather than on a separate page as before. Long lists are divided in to pages of 25 items each that can be easily (and quickly) browsed. A filter feature allows you to filter the list based on specifying part of the cemetery name. See Help for the Place Cemeteries tab for more information.
-
Cemetery Subdivisions Lists the subdivisions for a cemetery if any have been defined on Histopolis. See Help for the Place Cemetery Subdivisions tab for more information.
-
Graves Lists the graves in a place, such as a cemetery or county. Long lists are divided in to pages of 25 items each that can be easily (and quickly) browsed. A filter feature allows you to filter the list based on specifying part of the surname, given names, birth year or death year. See Help for the Place Graves tab for more information.
-
Surveys Lists the survey townships, ranges and meridians that apply to the place. Long lists are divided in to pages of 25 items each that can be easily (and quickly) browsed. A filter feature allows you to filter the list based on specifying part of the township, range and/or meridian. See Help for the Place Surveys tab for more information.
-

-
Help Icons Help icons have been added that popup relevant help for many pages, including the Site Menu, Place Navigation bar, Place Page, and each tab on the place page. The help icons are generally located to the top right of the content they describe.
