- Located in south central Nebraska along the boundary with Kansas, 64 km (40 mi) south of Kearney; County Seat: Franklin.
- Named for Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), American Statesman and philosopher. Franklin County was first settled in 1870 and the Legislature formally approved the formation of the County on 9 March 1871. Boundaries were defined on 16 February 1867. (NE-T18/p60)
