- Named for Nixon W. Stanfield who homesteaded the land prior to 1915. At that time the place was known as Summerland with a post office from 1914 to 1918. About 1945 the name 'Table Top' was applied from a nearby mountain, but the re-established post office was called Stanfield in 1948 (AZ-T101).
