- Foggy Bottom consists of the area bounded by 19th Street, Constitution Avenue, the Potomac River waterfront, lower Rock Creek Park and M Street, NW.
- Several theories exist as to how Foggy Bottom received its name. Some believe the name is derived from the fog that rises off the Potomac River, while others speculate that it was named because of the smoke generated by the gas plant and other factories that were located along the waterfront.
