- An epidemic of diphtheria struck the Rapidan area and the two daughters of Olaf and Bertha Holberg, Mary (six) and Cora (eight), were victims. They were buried on a hillside which was part of their father’s pasture. I early November four children of Mr. And Mrs. Olaf Anderson also died of diphtheria: John (four), Anna (eleven), Martha (seven), and Mathilda (age unknown). They were buried on the same hillside near the Holberg children.
