- Located in north central Stanly County, 64 km (40 mi) east northeast of Charlotte.
- A post office opened here in 1826 as Smith's Store Post Office. The name was changed to Albemarle Post Office in 1841. The community was incorporated in 1857. Named for George Monck (1608-1679), Duke of Albemarle, and one of the original Lords Proprietors of North Carolina in 1663. (NC-T11/p6)
