- Located in eastern South Dakota, 96 km (60 mi) north-northwest of Sioux Falls; County Seat: De Smet.
- Created in 1873, organized in 1879, and named for the Kingsbury brothers from New York, George W and T A, who served in several Territorial Legislatures. George Kingsbury settled in Yankton in 1862 and operated a successful newspaper and printing business. He was also a published author. (SD-T17/p28)
