- Located along Auke Bay, 1.6 km (1 mi) west of Auke Lake and 17 km (10.5 mi) northwest of Juneau, Coast Mountains.
- Name derived from the bay of the same name. It was settled soon after Glacier Highway reached there in 1918 (Dearmond, 1957, p6). A post office was established in 1946 (Ricks, 1965, p5).
