- Located in central Kentucky, about 16 km (10 mi) west of Lexington; County Seat: Versailles.
- Established in 1788, named for General William Woodford of Virginia, and an officer in the Continental Army. He died while a prisoner of War of the British Army in New York in 1780. (KY-T1/p324)
