- Located in northeast-central Missouri.
- First settled in 1830 by pioneers from Kentucky and soon after by emigrants from North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Audrain County was organized, with Mexico as county seat, on 17 December 1836. (MO-T109/p47) Named for Colonel James H Audrain (1782-1831), a State Legislator from St Charles County. (US-T125/p556)
