- Located in northern South Dakota along the boundary with North Dakota, 145 km (90 mi) north of Pierre.
- Created and organized in 1873; named for Norman B Campbell, son of General C T Campbell who founded the community of Scotland in Bon Homme County in 1871. Norman Campbell was a member of the Territorial Legislature from Bon Homme County when this county was established and named for him in 1873. (SD-T17/p23)
