- County Seat: Faulkton.
- Created in 1873, organized in 1883, and named for Andrew J Faulk, 3rd Governor of the Dakota Territory who also served in many other capacitites in service to the State of South Dakota. Mr. Faulk was a major supporter of opening up the Black Hills to settlement and subsequent development, which occurred in the late 1800s. (SD-T17/p26)
