- Located in southeastern Nebraska, 64 km (40 mi) southeast of Lincoln; County Seat: Tecumseh.
- Named for Colonel Richard M Johnson (1881-1850) from Kentucky who served as Vice-President under President Martin Van Buren from 1837-1841. Boundaries were established on 2 March 1855 and redefined on 10 February 1857. (NE-T18/p82)
