- Located in southwestern Nebraska, 32 km (20 mi) south of Ogallala; county seat: Grant.
- Named in honor of Charles E Perkins, President of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad. The first settlement in the area came in 1885; the county was later formed from a portion of Keith County on 8 November 1887. (US-T131/1960/NE Placenames, p113)
