- Located in southwestern South Dakota along the boundary with Wyoming, 48 km (30 mi) south of Rapid City; County Seat: Custer.
- Created in 1875 and organized in 1877; named for General George A Cutster who discovered gold in French Creek. He died in 1876 in The Battle of Little Big Horn in Montana. (SD-T17/p24)
