- Located in central Kentucky, 48 km (32 mi) southwest of Lexington; County Seat: Harrodsburg.
- Established in 1785 when Kentucky was part of Virginia. Named for General Hugh Mercer (1725-1777), who served with the Continental Army and who was killed in the Battle of Princeton. (KY-T1/p194)
