- Named for George P Goodwin, the first land commissioner of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway Company. Platted in 1878. (SD-T83/p. 78) Another theory for the origin of this name is that a worker for the railroad was killed while the tracks were being laid and his widow requested that the town be named in his honor.
