- Located in northwestern South Dakota along the boundary with North Dakota; 121 km (75 mi) northeast of Rapid City; County Seat: Bison.
- Created in 1908 and organized in 1909; named for Henry E Perkins of Vermont. The name was chosen because Mr Perkins was an instrumental supporter of the legislation which created this county when he served as State Senator in 1903, 1907 and 1911. (SD-T17/p32)
