- Named for Gregory County which was named for John Shaw Gregory of Fort Randall. Mr Gregory was born into a military family in 1831 in New York and graduated from the US Naval Academy. He was a member of the first Territorial Legislature in 1862 and later a United States Indian official serving the Ponca Tribe. (SD-T17/p26,66) Platted in 1904 and incorporated in 1908.
