- One of the original 19 parishes, established 31 March 1807. The original seat of government was the community of Saint James, but in 1896 it was relocated to Convent. Reportedly named for Jacques Cantrelle (also known as St. Jacques de Cabahannocer or St. James of Cabonocey), who constructed a church in the parish sometime prior to 1770.built there by a man named Jacques Cantrelle.
