- Located in south-central Kentucky along the boundary with Tennessee, about 80 km (50 mi) west-southwest of the community of Bowling Green; County Seat: Burkesville.
- Established in 1798, named for the Cumberland River which flows through the County. Reportedly, the river was named by explorer Dr Thomas Walker for the Duke of Cumberland. (KY-T/p75)
