- Named for Iyanough or Qyanough, resident chief, in 1621 (Douglas-Lithgow, 1909); also known as Hianna (Steel), or Yanno, he conveyed to Barnstable the present lands of Hyannis, Hyannisport, Craigville and Centerville. the town records, the lands were known as 'Yanno'S LANDS', which developed into Hyannis (Cape Cod Guide, 1964).
