- Catron County is located in west-central New Mexico at the Arizona boundry.
- Created from western Socorro County in 1921. Named for Thomas B Catron, an attorney and US Congressman who came to NM in 1866 from Missouri. He pushed for statehood for New Mexico and saw that achieved in 1912. Served as one of New Mexico's first US Senators. (NM-T27/p68)
