- Located in south central Ohio, 113 km (70 mi) south southeast of Columbia; County Seat: Jackson.
- Established on 12 January 1816, named for Andrew Jackson, "Old Hickory" (1767-1845), war hero in the victory over the British Army in the War of 1812 in New Orleans. Later he served as the 7th President of the United States from (1829-1837). (OH-T801/p277)
