- Incomplete Record The geographic center, or that point on which a surface of uniform thickness would balance, for the state is located in Pulaski County, 19.3 km (12 mi) northwest of Little Rock.
- Statehood: 15 June 1836. From the name of a river named for an Indian village and tribe. The French recorded the tribal name as "Arkansa" about 1673, and the "s" was added as a plural. The French pronunciation and spelling still prevail, although the act establishing the Territory originally spelled the name "Arkansaw."
