- Located in west central Georgia, 58 km (36 mi) southwest of Atlanta; County Seat: Newnan.
- Created on 9 June 1825 with boundaries redefined on 31 March 1826. "Coweta" translates to "falls" or "where there are falls" and relates to the falls along the Chattahooche River which is the northwest boundary of the County. "Coweta" is the name of an American Indian Tribe, which at one time was led by its Chief, General William McIntosh, a Creek Indian. (GA-T21/p54)
