- The geographic center, or that point on which a surface of uniform thickness would balance, for the state is located in Park County, 48 km (30 mi) northwest of Pikes Peak.
- Statehood: 1 August 1876. This name was chosen by Congress out of many proposed when the Territory was formed in 1861; probably named for the Colorado River, which was wrongly assumed to head in the Territory. In 1921, Congress changed the name of the Grand River, a tributary of the Colorado River, so that part of the Colorado River would flow through the State. The name is Spanish, meaning "colored" or "reddish," descriptively applied to the Little Colorado River in Arizona in 1602.
