- So named as there is a red butte near this Southern Pacific Railroad station. The post office was established in 1887 as Red Rock but changed to Redrock in 1895. The post office name was returned to the two word form, Red Rock, in 1950 as a result of the Board on Geographic Names (BGN) decision (AZ-T101).
