- Located in central Georgia, 77 km (48 mi) south-southeast of Atlanta; County Seat: Barnesville.
- Created on 17 August 1920 from portions of Monroe and Pike Counties. Named for lawyer Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar (1825-1893), of Eatonton who served as a U S Senator, Secretary of the Interior, and in his later years became a justice on teh Supreme Court. (GA-T21/p129)
