- Located in central Kentucky, 64 km (40 mi) south-southeast of Lexington; County Seat: Mount Vernon.
- Established in 1810, named after the Rockcastle River which makes up the southeastern boundary of the County. The river was named in 1767 for a huge rock formation that provided shelter for travellers. (KY-T1/p253)
