- This name, which replaced Howard, was adopted in 1880 for the Hume Distillery at Louisville, Kentucky. Three barrels of whiskey had been shipped from this distillery to Howard, Kansas, but a mistake had been made and the whiskey was delivered to Howard, Missouri. As the whiskey arrived at the time the people were hunting for another name, Hume was suggested and adopted. (MO-T101)
